Happy Friday!
A good life isn’t something you can buy or achieve. Isn’t that idea interesting?
A study from 1938 has tracked the lives of 724 men. With 60 men still living, they are now studying the lives of over 2,000 of their children. Their main question is what is the good life? The answer: those who have connected quality relationships rated their quality of life as better than any amount of money, job success, or fame.
As a Christian, I know the importance that Jesus has put upon relationships. One of the number one ways I experience the love of Christ has been through the people He sends into my life.
Those in the study who were lonely, or who did not take the time to maintain their relationships, time after time, experienced more physical pain (turns out bad relationships can make you sick and experience slower healing) and even died sooner than those who worked to maintain strong relationships.
So this week’s ideas for intentionality are all about stronger relationships:
Ideas for Intentionality
Restoration Home Community: Come join me in this online homeschool community! This group is helping me lean in and do the good work of building healthy connections with my kids (with healthy accountability). The doors are closing SATURDAY! So hop in if you need some extra encouragement on your mothering journey, Matt is always saying it was the best money we have spent this year.
Marriage Nudges: A couple of ways Matt and I keep our marriage strong is by having our weekly couples meeting. 100’s of couples have downloaded this simple Google sheet and started to use it. We always kick off our meeting with this devotional and I can’t recommend it enough.
Family Night: We aim to have one night set aside for some quality family time. This game has been a fun, easy game for multiple ages.
Question deck: One way to go deeper with friends is to use a question deck. It takes the conversation to deeper, surprising, and even giggly places. We use this one with our kids at family dinner (we even did it while my parents visited, and I learned new things about them-SO fun!) and we do this one with friends and our church community group.
Create Culture of Love: this is a blog post I wrote a year ago on how I have aimed to create an atmosphere of love in my home all while missing the mark more times than I can count. We can do this! We just have to be intentional, a culture of love won’t happen by accident.
