Happy Friday,
One thing I have been really working to overcome is Mama Anger. Can you relate?
This analogy of kindling (helps fire get started) under firewood helps me to stay calm…When I start feeling like I’m getting overwhelmed, that my body is seizing up a little, and my throat is feeling tight… This is my body signaling that there is kindling being lit on fire.
And if I ignore those feelings and press on, I typically will erupt in harsh anger like a roaring fire.
But if I can start to notice those feelings in my body, pause, and drop my agenda for a second, until I calm down, it helps a ton!
I hope that idea can help you show up as a kinder woman and mama this week.
Here are some Ideas for Intentionality that have helped me stay calm which goes a long way toward battling anger:
Ideas for Intentionality
Tea candles at dinner: I bought this big box of tea candles for dinner. These are scent-free (I don’t love a scented candle while I am trying to eat) and they just burn for an hour or so. Turning the lights off and eating by candlelight calms everyone down. If you like beeswax, this box looks good too! And I love these amber votives, so pretty!
Trace Minerals with Electrolytes: I feel like trash if I cave and have afternoon coffee, plus it doesn’t help my stress level. So opting for these electrolytes with a couple drops of trace minerals is clutch. My friend Mollie who is an NTP has taught me that you first have to address mineral deficiencies if you want to then help your hormones. We need more minerals because water treatment plants remove minerals and farming in our country doesn’t prioritize soil with good minerals, so our body needs intentionality to get minerals. But trace minerals don’t taste great, so I cover the taste with yummy electrolytes, double win!
Avoiding hangry feelings: Upping my protein certainly helps to avoid the hangry feeling, My whole family uses this one and this one blended with milk.
Children’s Book: This sweet book reminds me how normal it is to get frustrated with kids, BUT how short and precious time is. We read it again this morning and it gives me all the feels.
One Minute Pause App: Just can’t say enough about this free app. My dear friend who is a counselor recommended it to me, and now I do it multiple times a day.
YouTube video: I made this video about motherhood anger and I give some tips that have been given to me by older, wiser women. If you struggle in this area, I know it feels shameful, but you aren’t alone and Jesus is bigger than this struggle, we can make progress!
ClassPass: easing back into exercise has helped me feel sane, but I like taking different classes to keep it fun. ClassPass allows you not to be tied to one gym, but attend lots of classes around town…During my free 14 days, I took Cyclebar, F45, yoga, and barre. And now I’m doing the 13 credits a month paid plan. Here is a free 2 weeks for you too!
Sending love,
Lana
