Just Ingredients Products Review- what I like and what I don’t like

I started following Karalynne Call from @just.ingredients over 7 or 8 years ago. I loved the simplicity of her approach: she walked through every major store aisle, showing you the good, better, and best choices for any item based on its ingredients list.

Fast forward to today, she has taken her health knowledge and created her own products. She has painstakingly sourced the best ingredients from around the world, like whey from New Zealand grass-fed cows, and created top-notch products.

Here is the WHOLE list of everything I have tried from Just Ingredients. I will give a short description of each product, my experience with that product, and how I have used the product.

There are a lot of winners, but a few I don’t love

Just Ingredients Products Review

Just Ingredients is the opposite of all the greenwashing I see at the store. Greenwashing is when something is made to appear natural and healthy, but when you look at the ingredients list on the back of the product, the list is full of ingredients that turn out to be the opposite of natural and healthy.

Karalynne Call has founded a company that never uses artificial or “natural” flavors.

“Natural” flavors may have originated from something natural but are a generic term that can be used for countless chemicals that mimic the taste of something natural. Since they are trade secrets, much like fragrances, we are not told what these “natural” flavors are or what they will potentially do to the body.

Just Ingredients also never uses sugar alcohols, which are known to cause diarrhea and bloating.

Everything is made with real ingredients. There is no food dye or fake anything in the products, just real food to sweeten, color, and give taste.

I love this approach to food. I genuinely believe that if we can get all the fake stuff out of our systems and eat real food again, it is hard to eat too much. Our bodies intuitively know how to regulate themselves, but fake food is everywhere, so I appreciate what Just Ingredients is doing with her products.

Just Ingredients Protein Powder

I was shocked at how many different ways you can use Just Ingredients protein powder. I have added it to pancake batter, yogurt, protein bites, ice cream, popsicles, and cold brew coffee, and that is not even the normal way, like smoothies or adding it to milk.

I usually aim to consume around 100g of protein per day. What is amazing is that one serving of protein powder provides 1/4 of that goal: 22-24g of protein per serving.

I also love that the whey in the protein powder comes from the best grass-fed cows. New Zealand has super high standards for its dairy industry, so I love that Karalynne sourced the whey (the protein part of milk) from there.

I have tried five different flavors of the Protein Powder. There is only one or two that I don’t care for, but I have found ways to use it that I do enjoy.

Vanilla Bean Protein Powder

Just Ingredients Vanilla Bean Protein Powder

This is my favorite flavor and the most versatile to start with. It is yummy when shaken with cold milk alone, but I also enjoy it added to a fruit smoothie, in this protein bite recipe, in this pancake recipe, and in countless other ways.

I think it has the right amount of vanilla, sweetness, and creaminess.

Creamy Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Powder

Just Ingredients Creamy Peanut Butter Chocolate protein powder

This is my husband and kids’ favorite. If we literally have nothing in the house and I need to get groceries, I can always rely on having the protein powder as a meal. I will add raw whole milk, a couple of scoops of the Creamy Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Powder, and ice to the blender (and maybe some frozen bananas, too, if we have some), and BOOM! It is a super nutritious meal with lots of protein and healthy fat from the milk.

And take the leftovers and pour them into these popsicle molds! Such a great summer hack!

Chai Protein Powder

Just Ingredients Chai Protein Powder

This Chai Protein Powder is for real. You can’t go wrong making an icy chai in the blender. But what is even better is adding a splash of cold brew to make an iced dirty chai. Come on now! It is so yummy!

These also make super yummy popsicles. These are the cold bust molds I use and love!

Lemon Swish Protein Powder

Just Ingredients Lemon Swish Protein Powder

Ok, this is the flavor that I don’t love with just milk.

We have enjoyed it by adding it to yogurt and berries, and we have also enjoyed it by adding it to these pancakes and then adding blueberries to the mix. But if you mix it with water or milk and shake it, I would choose another flavor.

Lucky Mint Protein Powder

Just Ingredients Lucky Mint Protein Powder

Whew, I really do not love this flavor for just mixing with milk!

But again, we DID find a way to enjoy it! That was done by mixing it with ICE CREAM and making a milkshake. Yup, instead of buying mint chocolate chip ice cream full of fake flavors and colors. Just add vanilla ice cream, a couple of scoops of the Lucky Mint Protein Powder, and a handful of chocolate chips to the blender, and BOOM! A yummy mint ice cream.

Just Ingredients Electrolytes:

One thing I was unaware of for so long is that even if you drink a ton of water a day, you can still be dehydrated. Our body needs sodium and potassium, too. Just Ingredients Electrolytes have the perfect potassium-to-sodium 3:1 ratio, so they don’t taste too salty.

Plus, there are no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or colors like many other electrolytes on the market.

How I use them + a pro tip:

Just Ingredients Raspberry Lemonade Electrolytes

Around 2-3 pm, I will fill up my shaker bottle with cold water, do 1-2 scoops of electrolytes, and then I will boost the drink with mineral drops. The mineral drops don’t taste great on their own, but the flavor of the electrolytes perfectly covers the mineral drops‘ flavor.

And then I shake them up and then add ice.

Why Add Mineral Drops:

Just Ingredients Raspberry Lemonade Electrolytes

When water is cleaned and filtered, it strips it of essential trace minerals our bodies need—minerals like Magnesium, Chloride, Potassium, and Sodium. This is why drinking actual spring water can be so helpful for your body; the natural trace minerals haven’t been stripped out of the water.

All of these minerals (magnesium, chloride, potassium, and sodium) are in the Just Ingredients Electrolytes, but I like adding extra minerals with these trace mineral drops. It seems to ramp up the effectiveness of hydrating with electrolytes. It is not necessary, but it is just how I like to do it.

My Two Favorite Just Ingredient Flavors of Electrolytes:

Raspberry Lemonade
Just Ingredients Raspberry Lemonade Electrolytes

Raspberry lemonade electrolytes are my absolute favorite flavor of Just Ingredients Electrolytes. They have the perfect sweetness of raspberries and the tartness of lemons. The bummer is that they are often sold out, so grab a bag or more if you see them in stock.

Strawberry Limeade
Just Ingredients Strawberry Limeade Electrolytes

This is my second favorite flavor of the electrolytes. I like the sweet and zesty blend of this flavor!

Flavors of Electrolytes that Come in 3rd and 4th:

Orange Pineapple
Just Ingredients Orange Pineapple Electrolytes

Did you ever try that drink back in the day called Tang? Well it taste just like it. It has a mild taste that also reminds me of orange gatorade. An amazing way to get hydrated without all the junk that is in gatorade.

I often mix up a batch of this and add it to waterbottles for baseball games. My boys love it!

Lemon Lime
Just Ingredients Lemon Lime Electrolytes

This is a yummy, mild flavor I enjoy, too!

Flavor of Electrolytes to Skip:

Mango Lemonade
Just Ingredients Mango Lemonade Electrolytes

It’s just way too strong. I tried using it in popsicles, and the kids would barely eat them. They said it was too sugary (well, that’s a first, right? Haha). I would say pass on this flavor.

Summer Pro-Tip for Electrolytes:

Mix them with water or 1/2 water and 1/2 coconut water and freeze them in these cold-bust popsicle molds. We do this daily at my house in the summer.

Just Ingredients Tooth Powders:

Just Ingredients Cool Mint and Fresh Citrus Tooth Powder

Okay, I have a love-hate relationship with tooth powders.

Love:

I love that my teeth feel clean after brushing. I love the genuine mint oils; this toothpaste has zero fake flavors. Plus, the toothpaste has hydroxyapatite in it. My holistic dentist explained that while Hydroxyapatite can’t reverse actual cavities that have made their way into the dentin, it can fight back at remineralizing the teeth’s enamel. Amazing, right?!?!

How to use it: Wet your toothbrush and dip it into the powder, brush, and spit (minimally rinse to help the Hydroxyapatite do its thing)

Don’t Love:

Ok, what I don’t love and what my husband really doesn’t love. It is messy, and the powder in the jar can get gross. Here is my workaround. When you open a new jar, store 1/2 or 1/4 in a small mason and store it away. That way, if the jar’s inside gets wet, it doesn’t all get wet and gross.

Also, this is hard for kids because they can get water in the powder, which is just a big mess. So, if you are willing to deal with a mess and supervise your kiddos brushing their teeth, the toothpowder is worth a try. We did Citrus for the kids and whitening for us.

The kids and I still use it; Matt returned to Tom’s toothpaste.

Lip Balm:

Just Ingredients Vanilla Mint Lip Balm

This lip balm has perfect texture and hydration and doesn’t leave a weird lingering taste as some lip balms do.

Probiotic Complex:

When the founder of Just Ingredients was asked what their #1 product was for improving health, she said the Probiotic Complex because of its pre, pro, and post-biotics. Leaky gut from compromised gut lining is real.

This helps to strengthen that gut lining. And so much of our health, and even mental health, starts with a healthy gut.

Just Ingredients Lemon Ginger Probiotic complex

This complex comes in small individual packets, which is nice on the go. I don’t love the Lemon Ginger taste as much as I love most of the electrolyte flavors. I would like to see if the Elderberry Lemonade Probiotic Complex is a better flavor.

Body Lotion:

This is 100% my favorite lotion I have ever used. It is perfectly creamy, not oily, and rubs in smooth without residue. The scent is a perfect summer vibe of old-school sun tan lotion at the beach, all without any fake fragrances. Another amazing thing is that there are no preservatives, just the SilverSol technology, which is in Colloidal Silver Spray (amazing for first aid uses).

Eucalyptus Mint: PASS on this scent

Just pass on this scent in the lotion. I couldn’t use it. It just smelled like bad old-school potpourri. The crazy thing is that I like the scent of hair serum that is Eucalyptus Mint.

Hyaluronic Acid

Just Ingredients Hyaluronic Acid

This stuff feels so hydrating without being oily under makeup. It feels like it sets the makeup really well too. My face felt a bit tighter too using it. I really like this product, so much so that I stole the one that came with my husband’s set too.

Colloidal Silver Spray

Just Ingredients Colloidal Silver

I do not understand everything about this technology but it is AMAZING! Hospitals have been using Colloidal Silvers for burn patients for a long time.

I use Colloidal Silver on wounds, bumps, and under the kids’ tongues if they are starting to feel sick.

Do some research on Colloidal Silver, and you will be blown away by how it can help heal the body. Here is a fascinating podcast on Colloidal Silver. I learned that the key is to get quality nano-silver so it comes in and out of the body within 72 hours.

Dry Shampoo

Just Ingredients Vanilla Mint Dry Shampoo

Ok, I thought this scent would be strange for dry shampoo. It does smell like cookies haha, but I promise this stuff works and is healthy for your scalp.

Remineralizing Mouth Wash

Just Ingredients Cool Mint Mouth Wash

It would be close if I had to choose between the mouthwash and the toothpowder. My husband would, hands down, say the mouthwash. He loves it!

It’s a perfect blend of real mint oils and a nice, clean feeling without the harsh alcohols normally found in mouthwash. Plus, it has hydroxyapatite, which helps remineralize teeth and prevent cavities.

Steel Shaker Bottle

Just Ingredients Shaker Bottle for Electrolytes and Protein Powder

Okay, I am obsessed with this shaker bottle, but I just realized you can get the same shaker bottle on Amazon without the Just Ingredients logo for $5 less at the time I am writing this post. Let me tell you, having a good shaker bottle is so handy for electrolytes and protein powder.

Sometimes, the electrolytes and protein powder start to clump up after a while. The shaker bottle has a metal ball inside it; you give the drink a re-shake and boom, all the clumps are gone.

Cookbook

Just Ingredients Healthy Cookbook

This cookbook is in heavy rotation around my house. It’s healthy, quick, and doesn’t contain a bunch of strange one-off ingredients.

Hair Serum

Just Ingredients Hair Serum

I have watched many YouTube long hair care videos, and they always talk about adding hair oil to the ends of your hair 24 hours before you wash to protect it from drying out and getting stripped during shampoo. I like this hair oil for that purpose.
