Ideas for Intentionality 15/52: Habit Stacking Tips, the Best Homemade Whipped Cream, and Encouragement for the Homemaker

by Taylor Barrett

Happy Friday!

One quick habit tip I have been using for tasks that I have some friction around is this: make it FUN! This is an Atomic Habit principle, but let me give you some examples of how I am using it.

  1. When I am folding laundry I get to listen to an audio book or watch some YouTube. Otherwise I don’t do it. I love to listen and learn, so you best believe I am folding some laundry haha!
  2. Another example is I got some new running shoes to start the habit of running again. I used to be a runner before I had kids and I feel most like myself when I can sweat on a run, so slipping on those shoes each day is something I look forward to!
  3. And finally, I have been giving out a dye-free jelly bean when the kids morning chores are done.

The principle is that the fun helps form the habits, but after a while, the habit will be solidified while the need for the fun can come and go.

Ideas for Intentionality:

New Running Shoes: These shoes feel like running on clouds. And yet, my feet and ankles feel super supported. I wish I had not waited so long to get some quality shoes.

Dye-Free Jelly Beans: Looking for cleaner Easter candy? If you live close to Trader Joes, their jelly beans are dye-free and so yummy! But if not, these are great too! I try to explain to my kids that we wouldn’t eat paint, so why would we eat food coloring? Now I hear this all the time haha: “Mom, does this have paint in it?”

Habit Checklist: I have been using this weekly planner, but my favorite part is the section at the bottom to track habits. I have about 7 things I try to do daily to just keep me healthy and sane. Checking the box in this planner just keeps it mindless and automatic.

Recent HUGE Just Ingredients Order: Here are some new items and a bunch of items I am restocking on:

– 2x Mint Remineralizing Tooth Powders

– Hair Serum (my last one got poured down the sink by a small child – I can’t make this stuff up!)

– Strawberries and Cream Protein Powder (new one I haven’t tried yet)

– 2x Raspberry Lemonade Electrolytes

– Caramel Corn Popcorn Powder (kid’s request)

– Hyaluronic Acid (helps hydrate my skin without feeling oily, perfect before putting on makeup)

– Tomato Basil Bone Broth (Matt’s favorite!)

What else am I working on?

This week I am sharing the recipe we use to make homemade whipped cream. When friends come over, I sometimes make a big bowl of this to put inside crepes or to top coffee with. And with strawberry season around the corner, I wanted you to have this recipe ready to go.

 Video of the Week:

Sharing what is, in my opinion, the most toxic mindset for homemaking, but also the mindset that helps break the cycle. Praying this video will be an encouragement for you all!

Sending love,

Lana

P.S. If you need a book to help answer some hard questions about heaven, this is great resource.

Pregnant P.S. Cool fact! Our brains make the decision 100% of the time whether we feel pain or not. The key is feeling safe and knowing the difference between a working pain and a hurting pain. God’s design is amazing! Are you pregnant and wanting to go natural? Come learn with me!

Watching and listening to other people’s birth stories can give us a better vision of what birth can look like for us! Watching videos of women giving birth may sound strange, but back in the day and still in many cultures, younger women were present for many births long before they gave birth themselves.  So…
