10 Side Hustles for Moms-Video

How I Make Money From Home
I currently run this blog, a YouTube channel, have a natural birth course for Christian woman, and make affiliate money from videos and emails I send out.
The income isn’t anything that could replace my husband’s income, but it is profitable for my time and is growing little by little.
Since coming into this world of blogging and YouTube I have learned of many, many ways to make money that I had never heard of.
I hope you will get some NEW ideas today that you may also not have thought of or at least better understand how women make an income from online work.

1. YouTube
The first side-hustle you can do from home is YouTube.
In order to make money from YouTube you need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours. Once you get to this point you will start making money called AdSense from all the ads that play within the videos.
This is typically not that great of a revenue source itself, because Google (who owns YouTube) only pays around $10-$15ish give or take per 1,000 views.
A smart YouTuber will have other sources of income that come alongside the YouTube videos. Many YouTubers will take sponsorships for their videos once they have grown their subscriber numbers.
If you want to learn the in’s and out’s of YouTube as a beginner I love this course.
And here is my YouTube channel is you want to get a peek at how I am doing YouTube.
2. Video Editing
The next side-hustle you could do as you are working on your YouTube channel is to edit for others. This is one thing I used to do. I have edited for a well known homeschool channel and a family coaching company. Each editing job challenged my editing skills AND gave me some side income that blessed my family!
Now I have hired a video editor for my YouTube channel to give me time to work on other areas of my business.
This is what you will learn, there are sooo many ways to make money by helping to buy back someone’s time.
Video editing does just take, you are helping to get a creator back their time. Many people need help even taking their long form videos and chopping them up into shorts for YouTube or reels for Instagram.
You do not have to be an editing pro to get started and start helping a creator.
One idea is to offer to do a video for free or some reels for free to show them what you can do!
If you want to get help with video editing, I loved Lisa Bass’s course YouTube! Also, I took Ali Abdaal’s editing Skillshare class and loved it too!
3. Blogging
This is a side-hustle a lot of women may know about, but they may not know HOW bloggers make money.
When you go to Pinterest and look for a recipe, you are going to a blog. And that blog is making money by the ads that they have on the side.

The good news is that ad companies generally pay way better per 1,000 visits to your site than YouTube does per 1,000 views to a video. The hard thing is that it typically takes 50,000 sessions per month to get a bigger ad network on the blog, but now there are some smaller ones that are helping bloggers monetize sooner.
At the time of writing this blog post I am not there yet on the bigger ad networks, but I may be applying to smaller one sometime soon.
Bloggers can also make money through affiliates where they recommend certain products or point to their own products like course, digital products like recipe books or printables.
Blogging is simply about getting some education on how to set up a WordPress site, learning the basics of Search Engine Optimization and then just getting started and staying consistent to create content.
I am still trying to grow this part of my business, but I can at least tell you that is how bloggers are making an income from their blog.
4. Freelance Writer for Blogs
A side-hustle that is perfect for SAHM’s is freelancing.
Many blogger do not write all their own content or sometimes any of their content. They may have guest bloggers write blog posts or they may pay ghost writers to write on their blog.
If you like to write, you could get some basic education on how to write blog posts and then start reaching out to bloggers asking if you could write for them.
You could offer to do a couple of posts for free to allow them to see what working with you is like and what your work actually looks like.

In the age of AI, content written by humans will become increasingly more valuable. And blogging is certainly not dead.
Even if you get a couple of no’s, it doesn’t hurt to ask!
Freelancing is a great way to work on your blog writing skills while you get paid.
5. Photography for Blogs
This side-hustle was a new discovery to me. It wasn’t until I was trying to take pictures as an amateur photographer did I learn about this whole world of making money from home.
There are many different types of photography that you could do for a blog, but one idea specifically is becoming a food photographer for blogs. Many food bloggers outsource their pictures for their blogs.
Here comes the food photographer who makes the recipe and documents the process and the pretty finished products with pictures.
These pictures are essential for a blog, but also for Pinterest which entices people to click over to the bloggers website for the recipe.

Here is a food photography class I found (I would love to take this course one day to get better at food photography myself).
This course helps students learn the necessary skills to become a food photographer and then tries to help connect the student with bloggers who are looking for food photography help!
6. Pinterest
Ok this side-hustle also blew my mind. It wasn’t until I took a Pinterest Course that I learned how much goes into Pinterest.
Did you know that Pinterest is actually the 3rd largest search engine in the world?
This means that is someone wants to get traffic over to their website Pinterest is a great way to do that! And guess what? So many people have no idea how to do Pinterest as a creator, nor do many people have an interest in learning it.
Here I believe lies an opportunity! You can take a Pinterest course, learn how to do Pinterest and then get paid to do it for bloggers and creators who want to traffic to their website, but the last thing they want to do is create a millions pins and dedicate time to understanding Pinterest.

Many, many bloggers outsource their Pinterest to an outside Pinterest agency. So why not learn it and do it for other women?
Like I have said before with freelancing, you can offer to create some pins for them and give them a trial run of your time. Pinterest takes time to see traction though and it can be slow grow for sure, but the truth is not doing Pinterest for creators is a lot opportunity, so that is where you can capitalize.
I love, love this course on Pinterest! It totally demystified Pinterest to me and her system is intricate, but it works! Plus, she is always updating her course which I appreciate so much!

7. Creating Paid Printables
This is one of the side-hustles I started with 6 years ago.
I started with a simple laundry guide way back in the beginning of my business. I sold it for just $5 or so, but I did make some sells from it. It taught me that you can create so many downloadable items and sell them digitally.
This could be creating art, fonts, Canva templates, guides that teach a skill, recipe books, meal plans, the list goes on and on.
The KEY here is delivering value above and beyond the price you are selling it for and also making sure the paid download solves an actual problem for someone.
They could simply have the problem of not wanting to create Pinterest pins from scratch, boom you create Canva templates so they can plug and play to create pins.
They could have the problem of wanting to batch a bunch of freezer meals, but they have never done freezer meals before. Boom! They pay for a guide to freezer meals and recipes to go along with it.
A simple platform to use to sell downloadables is Sendowl. It is very affordable and it takes your payment and handles the delivery of the download.
I used Sendowl for years to handle the payment for my birth course when it was housed on the backend of my website. I talk about that more in this video.
And here is an example of a printable I give away for free, but that could easily be sold for a couple of dollars since it solves the problem of having a beautiful watercolor checklists that mom’s can use with their kids in homeschool.
8. Courses
The side-hustle of course creation might be intimating, but I promise it isn’t.
I know you might be saying, Lana, what in the world would I make a course about. But if you can solve a problem for another woman through a course, you are on the right track.
The problem I solve with my course is that if a mama is pregnant and wanting to go natural, but feel nervous about going natural or is fearful of the birthing process. My course is here to help! I also decided to focus in more and specifically help mama’s who want to invite the Lord into their birth preparation and birthing process.
What problem can you solve? Is there something niche that you know a lot about or an experience you have been through that you can offer wisdom and insight to help someone else navigate?
My caution is to really make sure you know what problem you are solving, who you are solving the problem for AND doing some tests to make sure it is a worthy use of your time.
How I did this was getting on Instagram and sharing that I was going to do a 4 week birth course taught live for $50. I got around 10 women to take me up on this. I kept it simple and they paid through a Venmo link and I sent them an intro video with all the details for the class.
Then I got to the experience of teaching the material and hearing their pinpoints and questions. Then I did this again for $100 per person and recorded myself teaching it. Then I boxed up those recordings and sold them for $150 on Sendowl.
This was a good way to MAKE SURE I had a market for the problem I was trying to sell. Now I sell my courses through a more advanced platform called Kartra which also is my email marketing platform as well.
9. Tutoring for Homeschool Families
This is side-hustle I believe you could start making money with fast!
Homeschool is booming! And one thing to know is that so many homeschool moms would gladly pay for a tutor for their child in many different subjects.
It could be foreign language, math, reading, and even just learning hands on skills.
You could have kids come into your home at certain times or you could do it all through zoom.
Two of my kids receive speech through zoom and it is actually a HUGE blessing to not have to get in the car and go anywhere. Their speech clarity has soared AND I didn’t have to load up all the kids and leave the house.
You don’t have to be an absolute expert in the field you are tutoring, you just have to know enough to help a child and take a load off of a mama who needs support.
10. Becoming a Virtual Assistant
This side-hustle for mamas is a HUGE way to make money from home in the fringes of your time and get training along the way. I used to help a podcaster when I first got started by listening to the podcast, pulling out quotes from the podcast that could be used on social media graphics and then writing up the show notes for the episode.
My point is the podcaster needed virtual assistance on the details of her podcast. I have hired a gal to help enter in all the links for my emails that go out on Friday. There are so many tasks a virtual assistant can do to help another business owner.
If there is someone you really admire online, it can’t hurt to ask if you can be of service to them and get paid to help them on the back end of their business.
You may have to agree to do some work for free so they can vet your work and see if they like working with you, but usually they will train you to do the work they need done. They are just looking for honest, hardworking, reliable help.
What You Definitely NEED to Know for Side-Hustling
If you really want to make money from home, you CAN do it! Think of a problem you can solve for another person. That is all business truly is. It is the service of solving problems for people.
You will only get tripped up if you overthink things and don’t take action. And remember whatever sidehustle you choose just posting on Instagram isn’t going to usually move the need.
It is actually doing the work of creating that printable, posting your first YouTube video or reaching out to prospective people you can freelance for that is going to bring in the money you are hoping to make.
I hope I have inspired you that with some action and focus you can have a sidehustle that is a blessing to your family while you keep the main thing, the main thing.
If you want more details on what I am sharing make sure to also watch this video where I go deeper and give a couple more examples of how to make money while you are mainly focusing on raising your family.
