I have compiled a list of 12 x 12 Challenge Favorites that I will continually be adding to. This is a list of items that can help you refresh a space with just a bit of intention, a couple of 10 minute timers and some love.
The goal is to be creating spaces for those we love. Spaces to encourage conversation, nudges to become who we long to be and invitations to linger. When our spaces are cluttered, disorganized and ugly it can be uninspiring. We can certainly make our spaces more beautiful without these “things,” but I thought a list of favorites could help your money go further in the right direction.
1. Plug In Wall Sconces
I think one way to add some style and function is more light. I am excited to give sconces a try this year. You can even use sconces without wired in electricity by using battery operated puck lights. I will add a link down at the bottom of this post on ways to do the sconce-puck light trick.
2. Farmhouse Semi Flush Mount Ceiling Light Fixture
Got this light originally for the hall refresh I did. I wanted to add a motion censored battery operated puck light to it, but I decided to save this light for the hallway where I would see it more. It is such a good price for a BIG change to a space.
3. Bamboo Drawer Dividers
I love these drawer dividers. They are beautiful, easy to install and super sturdy. They even come 4 to a pack which I think is a great deal .
4. Battery Powered Motion Sensor Ceiling Closet Puck Lights
I used two of these at the top of my hall closet makeover and they have been a HUGE game changer. I simply open the door and BOOM there is light. The light is nice a bright too, but I opted for 2 of them to give me even more light. The back of them screws into a surface and them you twist to attach the light-SUPER EASY!
I realized that one reason all of my closets stay a mess is that I do not have electricity in any of the closets, so there is no light. No wonder I couldn’t keep those spaces organized. I am literally working in the dark. So if you go to organize a closet-add a motion censored, battery operated puck light and your work will all be worth it.
Without proper light in a space it is tough to stay organized.
5. DYMO Label Maker
Yall this label marker makes my ADHD brain feel like it has gone to a spa. One anxiety I have about organizing is that if I put things away, especially in a container I can’t see through it is easy for me to forget about it. Then the label maker came to the rescue. Not only did I give everything a home, but I gave it an address. Now others in my home that can read can find the home for the item as well.
This also has kept me from stashing things in baskets where they do not belong-cue my community group showing up in 10 minutes and I am stashing junk in the closet-but wait the scarf doesn’t go in the mismatch sock basket, so I intentionally do not put the scarf there. Whereas before I just stuffed things in baskets, because at least I was putting it somewhere besides the floor.
Sometimes label makers are a little finicky, but it isn’t something a good YouTube video can’t fix. So highly recommend these label makers. Also, watching the label print is just as gratifying as laminating paper or looking at the steam mop pad when I am done, haha those two things just make me feel so productive haha, ok just me?
6. Budget Friendly Chalk Paint
I used to be an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint girl. Where was someone to tell me that $40 for a quart of paint was CRAZY! I am so glad Rustoleum came out with this inexpensive quality chalk paint, that is around 1/2 the price. You also do not have to buy the paint from an authorized dealer, you can just grab it at Home Depot or on Amazon.
