Ideas for Intentionality 20/52: Spice Girls ๐Ÿ˜œ, Self-Respect, and Mirror Talk

by Taylor Barrett

Happy Friday!

Was anybody else into the Spice Girls when they were young? (might be aging myself haha)

Despite how crazy the lyrics are, I definitely was.

Now I canโ€™t say that Posh Spice is an absolute role model, but I love this quote from her:

โ€œI look in the mirror and I say, this is me and I am going to make the most of it.โ€

This is how I interpret thatโ€ฆ looking in the mirror and, instead of picking myself apart, it is saying thank you God for how you made me and I am going to take care of myself the best way I can.

Sometimes with little kids, it can be brushing my hair, putting on real clothes, moving my body for 7-10 minutes to keep myself strong, drinking water and doing small disciplines to keep myself healthy and looking my best.

I talked about this in a recent video where I unpack why having self-respect is so much more motivating than trying to do self-care.

Ideas for Intentionality:

Hair Oil: One hair tip I have picked up from lots of hair care videos on YouTube is to be oiling the ends of our hair. Especially the day before we wash our hair (to keep shampoo from drying out the ends of the hair). This is the hair oil I love and the smell is so earthy and clean!

Protein Bite Recipe: This is the recipe I have been using and perfecting over the last 10 years! Adding protein powder to the recipe takes this recipe to the next level with nutrition and protein content.

Want Help with Friendships: I didnโ€™t know how much emotional intelligence I lacked until I started reading this old, but classic book. The one thing is that it can be manipulative, so warning to be a student and not a follower with this book, but it has helped me a ton in relationships!

Foundation that Nourishes: With our skin getting darker as we spend more time in the sun, it might be time to order the next shade up on foundation. I have ordered the sample pack in the past to find the right color. This foundation has light coverage that feels breathable and is made with super clean ingredients.

Spring Dresses: The May Collection for Neuflora comes out on the 21st and there are some really pretty spring dresses I am eyeing! I like that their return process is easy for store credit and I like the linen fabrics they have. They have worn well and even gotten better over time.

What else am I working on?

After having 5 kids, I have some thoughts on how the number of kids you have affects you, and it’s not what you think!

What if culture’s “self-care” isn’t the answer? What if we need something even deeper? Let’s talk about it in this video!

In this video, I am sharing 9 things that have changed in my life since becoming a Christian

Sending love,

Lana

P.S.

I have been phoneless this month since my Light Phone died in my cup holder thanks to 4 year old shenanigans. I’ll have to tell you more about that next weekโ€ฆ all that to say, I have a different phone to tell you about on my โ€œlife without a smartphone” journey.

Pregnant P.S.

Find yourself in the first trimester and on the struggle bus? Here is a video where I share my top tips.
