Happy Friday!
I just finished teaching 13 kids a 6-week class called obstacle course challenge along with my friend Maria. Every week, I tried to incorporate a mental shift for the kids to use while they were rolling through all the jumps, burpees, and obstacles I had set up.
The one mental shift the kids seemed to connect with the most was this…
(and it’s not just for kids, but could be so helpful for you every day in motherhood).
“Imagine two dogs fighting inside of us. The dog that wins is the dog we feed. The two dogs are Positive Dog and Negative dog. We have to choose which dog we want to feed and that one wins.”
The kids connected with this analogy, and it gave us language to use with one another, especially when the obstacles got challenging, the grass was wet, or the kids were hot and tired.
How would it change our motherhood experience if we chose to feed the positive dog? There will always be negatives we can fixate on, but there is also so much good we can choose to praise God for.
Here are some Ideas for Intentionality for your week to help you feed the positive dog inside of you + sharing my Amazon order from today with you:
Ideas for Intentionality
Energy Bus: This is a fictional story that we have almost finished as a family and that is where I got the idea to feed the positive dog. It is a business/personal development book, but my kids still gained a ton from the Energy Bus and it gave us some common language we can use as a family.
New YouTube Video: New video drops today on 4 remedies/foods to keep on hand throughout sick season. I was inspired by my daughter’s pediatric nurse who was a homesteader and shared all her natural remedies with me.
Dried Elderberries: In the video, I show you how I make my elderberry syrup. You CAN do this yourself. You can make soooo much elderberry syrup for so little and keep the elderberries for next season too.
Fermentation Weights: I made fermented pickles in the video and here are the weights that I used to keep the pickles submerged under the briny water.
Big Mason Jars: I am obsessed with these for the kitchen. They are perfect to ferment in, but also to store leftover soup in.
Mineral Drops: I restocked on these drops. I boost my electrolytes with these and, WOW it makes me feel completely different in the afternoon.
Replacement Copy of One of My Fav Books: I gave my copy of the Power of Christian Contentment to a friend. And then I missed my book, so I ordered a new one to scribble on and underline in.
Paper to Wrap Bread as a Gift: I usually use unbleached parchment paper, but I want to make bread this fall and wrap it up like this gal does in this video. So I ordered this paper, because I know I will find other uses for it. I have a video coming soon on inexpensive, thoughtful gifts! And wrapped bread is one idea I share.
Funny Tea Towel Gift: I also picked up this funny tea towel as a gift. I think this paired with a loaf of bread or these lovely wooden spoons like this would be such a sweet gift for neighbors, coworkers, or teachers.
Sending love,
Lana
P.S. My kids and I went on a rabbit hole the other day learning owl sounds and this one made my kids giggle so much!
Pregnant P.S. One thing I talk about in my course is that buffalos run into storms, but cows run away from storms. Why would I include this in a birth course? Because often times in life we act like cows, trying to run from hard, scary things, but then we just end up dealing with stuff longer. Instead, if we take things head on (like partnering with our bodies for birth and embracing the process) and just run into the storm, we can be on the other side much sooner. The same can be said for uncomfortable conversations, discipline moments, and even exercise. Shift your mindset to that of a buffalo for all the hard parts of life and see what a difference it can make!
