Ideas for Intentionality 6/52: Beating Mid-Winter Blah, Legit Productivity with Kids, and Valentine’s Purchases

by Taylor Barrett

Happy Friday,

Have you heard of “the Februaries”? It is a real thing!

My sister is 4 years younger than me and is a homeschool mom as well. This week, we were sharing our highs and lows of life. We chatted about the snow, sickness, the motivation for school that’s dropping, kids being cooped up, and how much we miss the sun.

It is in these winter days when homeschool moms can seriously doubt their sanity and life choices haha.

But I think winter makes us long for the warmth again, much like the hard days in life make us long for Jesus to come back and make it right.

So if the cozy vibes have turned into the Februaries, just know you are not alone.

Here are some ideas for Intentionality to make the most of the Februaries:

IDEAS FOR INTENTIONALITY:

Taking a Break to Reorganize Playroom and Homeschool Spaces: I am putting away toys that have too many pieces or feel chaotic in this postpartum season. These magazine holders are still my fav for the homeschool space!

Baking and Cooking with Kids: My kids absolutely love this cookbook. We made cookies out of it today with friends. My boys were begging for this cookbook, so I grabbed it for them.

Bring the Warm Light: I know I say it all the time, but just leaning into this season with some candles helps so much. I turn off all the lights in the house and use these at night. It really helps my kids go to bed earlier in the winter.

Get Some Special Books: I saw this list of books from the Rabbit Room for Winter and I grabbed these books:

  • SNOW
  • A Long Road on a Short Day
  • Owl Moon

PLANNING A LITTLE VALENTINE’S PARTY

  • I love this little pom pom garland tutorial from Peaceful Press, I picked up this pink yarn to make it with.
  • This DIY card decorating pack is so cute. I already know the girls are just going to go crazy with it!
  • Grabbed some heart cookie cutters, muffin/capcake liners and non-dye pink sprinkles too!

Productivity That Feels Like Accomplishment Versus Just Busy – Getting a task done FEELS good, but what about all the tasks at home that are never really checked off? All the hidden work only the Lord sees? How can we feel accomplished and productivity as a mama?

When It Feels Impossible – Even if it feels like we went in circles all day, but there are kids that were loved, we did a lot! God sees all our hidden work and it matters to HIM!

P.S. I have watched this YouTube video at least 4 times! My son said it has been so helpful to him too (he is 11).

Pregnancy P.S. Need some extra support with your belly feeling heavy? These supportive bloomers helped a ton at the end of my pregnancy and they feel great postpartum!

Watching and listening to other people’s birth stories can give us a better vision of what birth can look like for us! Watching videos of women giving birth may sound strange, but back in the day and still in many cultures, younger women were present for many births long before they gave birth themselves.  So…
