I am all about trying to keep kids off screens, but I am also a realist that sometimes a movie is helpful on a rainy day. So here is a helpful list of good clean kid friendly movies for a rainy or hard day!
Keep in mind that these movies aren’t going to be perfect!

My Disclaimer on Good Clean Movie Standards
These are movies my family watches and I have a clean conscience about their exposure to these movies.
I have laid out any hesitations I have with each movie, but as always your standards and values might look a little different. That is totally ok!
And I may have missed something or forgot something about these movies. Use your best judgment and two great websites to double check each movie is plugged in and common sense media.

Where to Watch Each Movie
I will also try to lay out where you can find each movie, but can I tell you that I really like just renting and buying movies, because I just DO NOT trust commercials.
That is my personal take, sometimes I can put on a totally clean movie on with strict kid guidelines in the setting and BOOM a commercial comes up that is not ok.
I try to remember the days of renting movies at Blockbuster and I love the feeling of building a collection of movies we have bought and love. We stream these on car rides or I will just tell the kids to go into our purchased movies to watch something, because I KNOW those movies are approved.
For that reason, I really like to rent and buy when I know it is a good movie. Then we can come back to that movie anytime we want.

Honorable Mention:
David

This is a newer movie! But WOW is it amazing! There were one or two scenes where the villain scared my 5 year old, but the storyline was worth it!
This movie rivals anything Disney has ever made! You can stream it on Angel Studios, which we have a love, but this is definitely a movie to own!
Little Women (from the 90’s)

I just REALLY love this movie. My kids have watched it over and over. The only part that has been a negative in my house was my 4 year old going around the ballfields calling girls “Jo March” (her word for bully).
I could watch this movie every week I just love it that much! The acting is sooo good too with some big names.
And the best part of sharing my favorite movies with my kids if all the lines of the movie we use as inside jokes. Ahhhh I really love this movie! Definitely one we own!
The Sound of Music

My kids can eye roll when I put this on (I did just yesterday), but then again they LOVE it once it gets going!
The singing, the storyline, and the love story! I am totally fine to push through the grumbling that may happen when I put on an old good movie, because I am curating their taste in movies.
And they would rather watch this than nothing at all.
The Chronicles of Narnia

This movie never gets old! A classic movie from the C.S. Lewis series.
I LOVE has the lion Aslan is a symbol for God. There is so much for the boys and the girls in this epic story!
The Prince of Egypt

Ok this is an older one, but I love that is a Bible story. I feel like they stay pretty true to the real story as well! The graphics need a little updating, but it is still a powerful story!
Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

I grew up watching this movie and I loved it! I remember feeling sad about the parents divorce at the beginning. So that is one thing to know, but I love the storyline.
My kids love it too. The one thing you have to watch out for is when Sassy makes the “butt-face” comment. I just explain to my kids there is a reason her name is Sassy in the movie.
The Sword in the Stone

One of the BEST movies from my childhood! I have so many inside jokes with my kids from this movie! I love how Merlin is the guide here and comes and believes in Wart like no one else.
Yes it’s on Disney+ but I don’t trust their commercials. 🙃🙃
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (new version)

I know it may not be Christmas time, but this yall this movie is GREAT! We rented it and the kids watched it twice before the rental ran out. It is has the same director as The Chosen, Dallas Jenkins! If that gives you any idea of how quality it is.
The acting could have been a little better, but most of the actors are kids so there’s that.
This movie is based on the book The Best Christmas Pageant Ever that I read to my kids over Christmas. The story perfectly captures what is so repulsive about a religious spirit without Jesus. It opened up all kinds of good conversations with my kids. And really touched all our hearts!
Honorable Mentions:
Planes: Fire and Rescue

We own this movie and I love the music in it! I honestly can’t think of one negative part of this movie. It is an oldie for our family, but still a good movie no one complains about!
Night at the Museum 1 and 2 (older kids)

We LOVE this movie and Night in the Museum 2. If you are wondering if it is kid friendly for your crew check out this review from plugged in. I think my hesitations on this movie are that there is some adult jokes, but they flew right over my kids heads.
Two Resources I Love for Good Clean Movie Reviews:
I really like Plugged In and Commonsense Media if I want to read a review before I show my kids a show or movie, I hope those websites can be valuable resources for you and your family!
