by Lana Sullivan

If you are wondering how to dress for this pregnancy, here are 10 helpful maternity clothes hacks revealed. These hacks maternity clothes hacks have saved me so much money and helped me feel good in my growing pregnant body over the last 5 pregnancies.

Pregnancy is a beautiful and transformative journey, but it doesn’t mean sacrificing your style or breaking the bank on maternity clothes.

As a woman who’s experienced the joy of pregnancy five times, I’m excited to share my top pregnancy maternity clothes hacks and strategic maternity pieces to help you feel confident, beautiful, and comfortable without compromising your budget.

If you’re also looking to find a comprehensive guide for pregnancy plus more maternity clothing hacks, check out my Pregnancy Survival Guide!

FREE Pregnancy Survival Guide with 30 pages of helpful tips to thrive through all 3 trimesters!

Hack #1: Dresses that Gather Above the Bump:

Investing in dresses that gather above the bump is a game-changer. Opt for flowy, stretchy dresses that not only accommodate your growing belly but also provide easy access for breastfeeding later. Looking for dresses that can either be casual or dressed up is a great tip too!

Don’t limit your nice clothes to special occasions; you deserve to feel beautiful every day. I know I carry myself differently when I’m happy with what I’m wearing. Just try dressing one level up!

Here are some tips for using regular dresses for pregnancy:

Helpful tip for dresses for pregnancy #1:

Look for dresses with pockets! They are an absolute must for motherhood.

Helpful tip for dresses for pregnancy #2:

Another tip is that cotton and linen are fabrics that FEEL sooo good in pregnancy and after.

Helpful tip for dresses for pregnancy #3:

TOP tip is to get dresses that will open enough at the top to breastfeed after pregnancy!

Why Neuflora Dresses?

My dear friend, minimalism and simple living expert Margaret Matheny from YouTube, introduced me to Neuflora clothing. The pieces are simple staples that help keep a wardrobe minimal.

I like Neuflora for better fabrics that feel breathable like cotton and linen and they have a really easy free return process for store credit.

I love this Neuflora dress on Margaret that is great pregnant or not! GIRLTEACHME10 gets you 10% off your purchase

Hack #2: Get Cami-Bras with Cup Inserts

Another maternity clothing hack is to say goodbye to uncomfortable underwire bras! Embrace cami bras with cup inserts to provide support and adaptability as your body changes. These bras are perfect for pregnancy and breastfeeding, allowing you to feel comfortable without sacrificing style.

Many women don’t know that having an underwire bra can contribute to clogged ducts and mastitis in breastfeeding, so the added bonus is that these bras are nursing friendly.

One pain point of a growing belly is that an underwire bra can begin to dig into your belly at the top. These cami-bras offer a lot of room and support as your belly grows without digging into your belly at the top.

They also look great in the summer under rompers and dresses.

Hack #3: Add a Bra Extender to Bras You Own

Save money by repurposing your existing bras with a handy bra extender.

These bra extenders are a lifesaver as your chest grows through pregnancy without having to go buy a new underwire bra.

Hack #4: Tie Dresses

Tie dresses are both stylish and practical during pregnancy. Layer for tie dresses with shorts underneath for added coverage and comfort. Adjust the tightness of the tie to accommodate your changing belly, and when you’re postpartum you can simply pull the tie tighter and add a simple stitch.

If you are going to do any kind of dress with kids, but especially a tie dress I think these pregnancy bike shorts are so handy. If the tie dress peps open you won’t be exposed.

Another tip is to get a little stitch gun that shoots a stitch into the dress to help keep it in place.

Hack #5: Dresses Above Knees for Sneakers

Pairing dresses above the knee with comfortable white sneakers creates a chic and casual look. This combination is perfect for both running errands and lounging around the house.

This blog post by my friend TeriLyn Adams shares styling help for pairing sneakers with dresses.

Hack #6: Try Thrift Stores First

Explore thrift stores for budget-friendly and unique pregnancy wardrobe options. Take your time trying on various dresses until you find the ones that make you feel confident and excited about your pregnancy.

You may have to try on several dresses before you find the right one, but keep on going! Thrifting allows you to build a stylish and affordable maternity wardrobe while your body is growing without dropping lots of money.

I spent an hour trying on 30+ dresses at a thrift store last time I was pregnant and walked out with 3 dresses that were gems in my pregnancy! And only spent $30!

Also, when you are in that weird period where your jeans no longer fit…going to a thrift store and sizing up on jeans will be a HUGE blessing after you have the baby too!

Women rarely think about this, but our bodies take time to go back after and we need clothes to wear!

Hack #7: Add Belly Shirts Over Dresses

Transform your dresses instantly by adding trendy crop tops over them. This hack not only provides extra coverage but also adds a touch of modesty to your look. Experiment with different styles to create unique and fashionable combinations.

Hack #8: Tie Tank Above Bump

Elevate your outfit by tying a t-shirt above your bump. This simple yet effective hack adds a multidimensional look to your attire, especially when paired with a dress that gathers above your bump.

Experiment with graphic tees for a personalized touch. One of my friends would even trim her graphic tee to hit right above her bump and it was always so cute.

Hack #9: Pull Skirt Over Bump

Create a stylish ensemble by pairing a long skirt with a crop top T-shirt. Adding shorts underneath ensures comfort and practicality, making this a versatile choice for various occasions.

Hack #10: Tuck Tank into Skirt Over Bump:

Achieve the appearance of a dress by tucking a tank or t-shirt into the top of a skirt. This hack allows you to maximize the use of your skirts and create diverse outfits for different occasions.

Hack #11: Get Colors You Feel GOOD In

Embrace vibrant colors that make you feel alive and confident! I am a neutral minimal wardrobe gal, but getting a couple of dresses in a fun color (especially from the thrift store!) just boosted my mood.

What is the color you feel good in? I don’t wear red a lot, but when I do I think it goes good with my skin tone and hair.

My point is in a season where you might not feel great about your body (but you should because God is doing amazing things through you and your body!) wearing some colors you feel confident in could be helpful.

Hack #12: Jumpers Feel Good on the Belly

Invest in jumpsuits for a forgiving and comfortable option during pregnancy. While they may pose challenges postpartum, they offer plenty of room to grow and can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. I practically live in my jumpers when I’m pregnant.

Pregnancy Wardrobe Hacks Additional Tips:

  • Maternity pants and overalls can be beneficial in the later stages of pregnancy, offering comfort and style. Pocket in the maternity pants really help to support your belly in the 3rd trimester.
  • Consider borrowing maternity clothes from a friend who isn’t currently using them!
  • Maternity tank tops provide flexibility and elongation, especially in black or white. While I don’t always love the ribbed look, the elastic provides a lot of give to allow your belly to grow.

As you embark on this incredible journey of motherhood, remember that you can maintain your style without compromising comfort or breaking the bank.

By incorporating these pregnancy wardrobe hacks, you’ll not only feel beautiful but also make the most out of your existing wardrobe, saving money for the precious moments ahead.
