Ideas for Intentionality 30/52: Fall Prep, Favorite Must Haves, and Freedom from Clutter

by Taylor Barrett

Happy Friday!

I am over here slowly starting to gear up for homeschool. By no means am I ready for summer to be done! In many ways I feel like summer just started since baseball just ended.

BUT I do want to feel good about school once we get started!

In the past, I have been a bit too lax about being prepared for school… well not this year!

I just filmed a video on what I would share with a mama if she is homeschooling her first. This inspired me to think through some of my favorite books, toys, and resources for you in each stage of motherhood up to 10 years old.

So here is the list of favorites that I believe will bless you and your littles.

Ideas for Intentionality:

Ages 0-3:

All of Baby Nose to Toes Boardbook: My 18 month old is obsessed with this book right now.

Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom Boardbook: I read this so many times to my youngest that I have the whole book memorized. It is great at getting them to recognize letters.

You Are My I Love You Boardbook: Just a precious book that reminds us all that kids are kids, but we can be the compliment to all their beautiful messes.

Mom Resource: I never knew I was an angry person until I became a mom. I think it is best to get ahead of this struggle and the Triggers book never ceases to speak to my husband and I.

Ages 3-5:

Runaway Bunny Book: I just love how this book speaks to the never ending, never stopping love of a mama.

Sheep in a Jeep Boardbook: This book always gives my kids the giggles and they never get tired of it.

Peaceful Preschool Curriculum: Even if you are on the fence about homeschooling, this is a golden resource! This is also my FAVORITE resource if you want an education on how to be your child’s first teacher and how to start to bring some order to the home. The guide at the beginning is a MUST and the booklist is a solid start to your home library.

Yoto Mini + Headphones: You could throw this in every age category. All my kids 10 and younger use the yoto. I got each of them a pair of their own headphones and we keep all our yoto cards in a book like this (it is good quality!)

Mom Resources: The Call of the Wild and Free helped me detach from thinking that school had to look one way and to embrace all the freedom we have to educate our kids how we see fit. And The Power of Christian Contentment is an ESSENTIAL for all believers, but also those who are tempted to doubt God’s goodness in trials and suffering.

Ages 5-7:

All About Reading: I soooo wish I had started with this reading resource with my first. They have a pre-reading curriculum that I am going to do with my 4 year old this year just to check it out, but level 1 was such an educational tool even for me. I will be using level 2 and spelling level 1 this year.

Watercolor Book + Set: I just LOVE how this Watercolor with Me book is watercolor paper, it shows you what colors to use and how to blend and that the pictures are printed in what looks like light pencil to help a young artist gain confidence. And this sweet little set is loved in our house.

The Ology Book: This is a beautiful, rich resource to explain really hard concepts about God in really simple, yet powerful ways!

Kids Dishwashing Gloves: The kids love tools that help them help. If you want to start getting some help around the house, getting little tools can motivate little people to jump in.

Mom Resource: My go-to for a weekly productivity pad. I like the space for weekly habits and just helps me stay hyper-intentional with my time.

Ages 7-10:

All About Spelling: We are just getting started with spelling in my house and this is the resourcewe are going to be using.

Christmas Day in the Morning Book: YALL, I know Christmas isn’t close, but this book touches the hearts of all of my kids. Especially my bigs.

Someday Heaven Book: This book is for all ages, but if you are struggling to find the words to explain where a Jesus-loving family member or friend went, this book helps with those answers.

Amber booklight: My kids delight in having their own personal light in the van or in their bunk beds. I love this warm golden light that won’t mess with their sleep.

Endless Yard Fun: My boys use this as their back stop and have the most epic wiffle ball neighbor games in the yard. I like this pack of wiffle balls. I have had two windows cracked from tennis balls, so it is only wiffles or these foam balls in the yard haha.

Mom Resource: The Whole and Healthy Family book should literally just be called GOLDEN MOM WISDOM haha. I love it so much! Jodi Mockabee’s boys are almost out of the house, so she is ahead of me. AND I appreciate her holistic, Holy Spirit saturated practical wisdom.

My Health Journey Motto: Good, Better, Best

Want to be healthier without making decisions out of fear? Crunchy can have a dark side at times when it gets us in a place of living by fear. But then to just think it will all be fine without learning and growing on our health journey may not be wise.

Sending love,

Lana

P.S.

Neuflora just released their July drop this week and it was one of the BEST they have done in awhile! I grabbed a dress and a little crocheted sweater I can layer over dresses.

Pregnant P.S.

I got the opportunity to go on the Simple Farmhouse Life Podcast to talk about natural birth. The episode rolls out Tuesday July 29th so be on the lookout for that! Lisa is about to have her 9th baby and she had a lot of helpful wisdom for those who might be expecting.
