Happy Friday!
Our heat went out recently! We woke up, and it was 61 degrees in the house 🥶 It was going to take a couple of days to get resolved, so I knew I needed to stop complaining and have a mindset shift.
I thought of how people used to wake up far colder and wear way more clothes to bed. 61 degrees was nothing to them.
Our culture is living for comfort and truly anything that can reduce our pain or inconvenience. I know I am guilty of this too!
And yet doing hard things can be very rewarding. Science even shows that doing what may feel hard can truly help fight depression. Amazing!
This week I am sharing resources that can help you and your family lean into the hard but valuable work you are all doing:
Ideas for Intentionality
Sourdough Book: There is something about taking the time to learn a craft or skill that truly makes homemaking more rewarding. I know sourdough is either way too scary or an old hat for you, but either way, this book can be a handy tool for you.
Podcast: This is one to save and relisten to when you need a boost. The conversation 1/4 of the way through really hits on why women may be feeling unfulfilled at home and what to do about it. Any guesses? Hard work is the theme of this week’s letter. 😉 Apple Link and Spotify Link
Tallow: This cold weather + washing dishes + heat (or no heat 🙃) in the house can leave your hands and face dry. I use tallow daily to add moisture back to my skin. Much like adding animal fat helps leather boots, it also helps your skin. The 4oz baby balm is the best value and I use it for everything, not just on the baby. LANA10 gets you 10% off too!
Children’s Book: This children’s book always makes my kids pause with wonder. They ask all kinds of questions about how a child so young could work so hard or be able to create so many things. Follow the family of 4, season by season, as they homestead to survive. It gives me a deep appreciation for how our great-great-grandparents lived.
YouTube Video: This was an actual hard day. I woke up just in a funk! (Does anyone relate?) I had to put my big girl pants on, maybe it will give you a boost in case you find yourself there in the future or even today.
Sending Love,
Lana
P.S. Not many women think about putting in the hard work to prepare for their upcoming birth. But I can promise you that birth prep is not a waste of time. Much like a runner works hard many months before a big race, labor prep is training too. If this is you, check out this course I created to help Christian Women prepare for a natural birth.
