Ideas for Intentionality 41/52: How to Skip the Holiday Overwhelm, Christmas Finds, and Tips to Take Back Your Home

by Taylor Barrett

Happy Friday,

I want to share an idea that I really think could change the whole vibe of your December!

I tried this trick last year and, even when everyone was going crazy and was super stressed, I felt like I could still really enjoy the Christmas season.

What is it? Starting the Christmas prep now. Now I am not trying to skip over thanksgiving and all the cozy, fall vibes. I am talking about having a game plan and starting to slowly make progress on all the details that are easy to procrastinate on.

What this looked like for me was starting to order a couple decor items, my wrapping paper supplies, and a couple of cozy items for the season.

I also put together my Christmas notebook (more in a video coming next Tuesday). In this notebook, I have a place to track all the presents I am buying, my Thanksgiving and Christmas meal plan, and Advent ideas I want to do.

So be on the lookout for that video coming soon!

Another thing I noticed is that almost everything I ordered was on sale even up to 25% off, why? Because it isn’t even Halloween yet! So spreading the expense of Christmas out over the next two months could be super helpful to save money with these early deals too!

Let’s avoid the paralyzed state we can all get in when we have too many decisions to make and events to attend in December by simply not putting everything off until Dec 1.

Here are my anti-procrastination Christmas purchases:

IDEAS FOR INTENTIONALITY

Wrapping Paper Selection: I got this pack last year and loved it, so I reordered it. And I added this sweet little whimsical nature Christmas paper (it is a shorter roll, but works great. I already wrapped one gift with it!)

Wrapping Accessories: I love this green chiffon silk ribbon 3 pack. It looks beautiful on top of the whimsical nature paper. I also got this kraft ribbon with a BIG pack of tape. I opted for a dispenser this year so I can grab tape with one hand and then use it for homeschool.

Christmas Notebook: I got these kraft paper notebooks, they are just ok! I wanted something that looked different than a standard notebook.

New Stockings: Since we are adding a member to our family I got some new stockings. These are simple and pretty!

Tree Decorations: I got a new tree skirt since ours was on the struggle bus, I think it will look pretty matching the stockings and I am super excited about these little clip on candles for the tree!

Cozy Vibes: I got some smaller taper beeswax candles and a little holder for them.

My husband was so puzzled when he opened the box with the candle holder haha he could not figure out what it was for and then when he saw the candle in the holder he said, “oh that is so nice!” and my daughter said, “I love these, why did you just get one?”

NEW ON YOUTUBE

My Real Reasons for Choosing Home Birth – I never would have dreamed that I would do home births! I was terrified of birth! I can’t wait to share how all of this changed for me and how home birth was a BIG part of that.

I am breaking down common questions and even concerns I get about home birth in this video and hopefully you will better understand why home birth is a great option for a healthy pregnancy.

The Gift of Getting to Take Back Our Homes– Taking dominion and building up our home as women is so much more than just cooking and cleaning, it is mostly about the environment we are creating for the people we love. I certainly don’t do this perfectly, but being home all day with 5 kids has shown me a couple of things that create a culture of love that people can feel in our home.

P.S. All of you who sent questions through email – THANK YOU! I am gathering them all for a Q&A soon! And if your question was about journaling, good news, I made a video all about journaling that drops today!

Pregnant P.S. If you are struggling with energy, make sure to keep your protein and iron HIGH! Dark meats, dark veggies, and even supplementing can make a difference. I have taken this blood builder in the past and now I am taking this iron supplement. Both work well, but nothing seems to give me a boost like a good steak! Blood volume expands in pregnancy so staying on top of this is KEY!

Happy Friday, I got some really good questions this week from you all, here are a couple… Is Christmas pagan? Should we celebrate Christmas if the Bible doesn’t command us to?
