Ideas for Intentionality 22/52: Stretched Thin, Recent Wisdom Gleaned, and the Best Whipped Cream

by Lana Sullivan

Happy Friday!

I was talking to a mom recently who I really respect. She shared this one tip to help kids in school, in work, in athletics and even in chores:

“Reduce the complexity and increase the repetition.”

This feels profound to me, because often kids can get overwhelmed when the task feels too hard.

The tip also speaks to me on a discipline level. Oftentimes for myself, I may try to do too much in a day.

What if we reduced how complicated our schedule was and instead did basic, but important things with more repetition?

It’s genius! These little disciplines for ourselves and our kids really get momentum going as we gain expertise and experience.

Less can be more.

Ideas for Intentionality:

Read Aloud to the Kids: Just finished the 5th book in the Little House on Prairie series, and we are about to start The Trumpet Swan since I have heard amazing things about it.

Paying My Kids to Read: Matt has always wanted to pay the kids to read big books that perhaps they wouldn’t naturally be motivated to read. So we put a dollar amount on The Biggest Story Bible Storybook and my 10-year-old is reading it at a rapid speed haha. For each chapter, he has to draw a picture and write one sentence.

Just Ingredients Protein Powder Review: I wrote this post to share what I like about protein powders and which ones aren’t my favorite. I also compare JI protein powder with some of the other more popular brands.

Sourdough Burger Buns for Grilling Season: Here is a super simple recipe you can use to dip your toe into making buns. My MIL has been making this recipe over and over the last year and passed on her pro tips to me.

Swap the Gatorade Out: For baseball, we have been doing one scoop of electrolytes and a couple drops of minerals with some ice for the ball field. That way my kids don’t feel like they are missing out on all the fun drinks in the dugout. The Blue Hawaiian has been a HIT!

Which Just Ingredients Protein Powder Flavor and Type is Best?

Just Ingredients just came out with a new kind of protein powder, so I wanted to share what the differences are and also my favorite flavors from using Just Ingredients Protein Powder consistently over the last 6 years.

Summer Homemade Whipped Cream

There is no need to buy fake stuff. I am telling you homemade whipped cream is so easy, wayyy healthier and is a great party trick for summer berries. And our family favorite for parties is crepes, nutella, strawberries and whipped cream!

P.S. Anybody else watching college softball this weekend? It has been my tradition since I was little to watch the Softball College World Series every year. Are you cheering for anyone?

P.P.S. Thank you for all of you who sent in your questions/struggles/pain points for the upcoming YouTube Q and A New Mom Edition. I am going to be setting some time aside to reply this week and stay posted for that video soon. And if you think of a question/pain point you are having, send it my way.

Pregnant P.S. Having trouble sleeping while pregnant, I always found this little wedge to be super handy to support my belly and get better sleep. I hope it will do the same for you!
